Charles Y. Sipe

RICHMOND—Charles Yancey Sipe of Richmond, a beloved husband and father, died suddenly on June 9, 2026, at the age of 60.

Charles was born August 4, 1965, in Newport News and was the youngest of four children. He graduated from Woodberry Forest School in 1983 and went on to the University of Virginia. He made lifelong friends at both. While at UVA, he was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity and the Eli Banana Ribbon Society. After graduating from UVA in 1987, Charles pursued a law degree at George Mason University, graduating in 1990.

He was a law partner at Kiernan Trebach in medical malpractice litigation law. He practiced prior to that with O’Hagan Meyer and with Goodman Allen Donnelly in Charlottesville.

At the age of 16, Charles met the love of his life, Cameron, in the Northern Neck. Their connection and love for each other was enduring, and they married in 1988. They made Charlottesville their home and raised a beautiful family with three children.

Charles was passionate about life and shared that passion with his family, along with anyone that knew him. He set an example of love and acceptance, parented with understanding and openness, and was deeply proud of his children. Charles’ steadfast faith, wisdom, and guidance navigated his family through challenging times, including his own battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

He valued laughter which sustained both him and his family through times of adversity and illness. His irreverent humor and quick wit were hallmarks of his unique personality. Truly, Charles was happiest when simply spending time with Cameron and the children. The loss of Charles in this world is profound, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Charles is survived by his wife, Cameron Carter Clark; sons Charles Yancey Sipe Jr. and Landon Clark Sipe; his daughter, Ann Carter Sipe; and his sister, Mary Hedley Sipe.

He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. William Henry and Mary Ann Yancey Sipe; sister, Elisabeth Susan “Lisa” Sipe; and brother, Willam Henry “Hank” Sipe.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Ivy. A private family burial at Historic Christ Church in Weems will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Heart Association.
