Chesapeake earns second place in Virginia Shipbuilding Competition

In a field of 10 middle school teams, the Chesapeake Academy (CA) Osprey Nest Nautical Repair team earned a second place at the Virginia Ship Repair Association’s Digital Innovation Competition with their idea for a Mini Inspector and Safety Technology (MIST) drone.

Designed to travel into confined spaces in marine vessels to determine air quality, the MIST drone can detect a lack of oxygen or the presence of toxic gasses in enclosed areas of naval ships, reported team coach Robin Blake.
