Historic Christ Church & Museum, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems, will host a free public viewing of History Half Told Is Untold, the inspiring film about First Baptist Church, Williamsburg, one of the nation’s oldest black churches. The viewing will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday, August 24.
The film traces First Baptist’s history from its founding in 1776 by free and enslaved blacks to its 245-year anniversary in 2021, reported Foundation for Historic Christ Church executive director Robert Teagle.
The congregation began meeting in secret in 1776 a few miles outside of Williamsburg, led first by a free black itinerant preacher named Moses. By 1781 the congregation had organized….
