Christchurch School volunteers complete community service at Evergreen Cemetery

Christchurch School director of world language Dr. Chris Little has been sharing the story of Evergreen Cemetery with the school community for years.

On weekends, he takes Christchurch students to the location in Richmond to help with the recovery of this historic African American cemetery, reported communications associate Jennifer R. Homer. 

From the 1880s to the 1920s, Evergreen Cemetery was a place of beautiful statuary, wide-paved avenues and a who’s who of the important African American families of Richmond. For 50 years after the Jim Crow Laws were enacted, the cemetery became abandoned and….
