
KILMARNOCK—Clara Roberts Bray, 86, of Kilmarnock, formerly of Reedville, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2024.
She was born on December 27, 1937, to Robert Llewellyn and Addie Smith Roberts in Norfolk, and the youngest of six children. The family moved to the Reedville area when Clara was five years old. There she grew up and married the love of her life, Robert Llewellyn “Bobby” Bray.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bobby; and her son, James “Jimmy” Bray. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Roger Roberts, C.A. “Spunky” Roberts Jr., Mildred Angle, Margaret Morton and Catherine Wilson.
Clara is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou Bray; grandsons, Ben Swann (Christy) and Cody (Nadejda) Boyd; and many nieces and nephews.
Clara was an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church, often serving on the administrative board and as a member of the church circles. She enjoyed baking and quilting, and was well known for her famous “Pearl’s Poundcake,” one of the favorite dessert recipes in the “Reedville Cook Book.” She and Bobby both spent many years as active members of the Northumberland Rescue Squad.
Clara was a wonderful wife, mother, friend, and grandmother. She will be missed.
Services were held Saturday, June 15, at Bethany United Methodist Church in Reedville. They received friends an hour prior to the service. Interment followed at Roseland Cemetery.
