The Lancaster school board has placed school superintendent Steve Parker on administrative leave and assigned assistant superintendent Dan Russell the duties of superintendent.

“I think this has been tough for everyone involved but our goal is to get back to focusing on children and instruction,” said Russell.

According to chairman Audrey Thomasson, the school board on Tuesday, February 19, voted unanimously (5-0) in open session to place Parker on administrative leave through the remainder of his contract period ending June 30. The action came following a February 15 decision not to renew Parker’s contract.

Russell will continue working as assistant superintendent at LCPS and will delegate the responsibilities of the superintendent to his administrative staff if they conflict with his work as assistant superintendent, said Russell.

“He’s going to appoint a team that’s going to help him with some of those duties while we do a search,” said Thomasson. “How he administers the job is up to him.”
