Decision in Hooper case could come on Thursday

LANCASTER—The presiding judge of the 15th Judicial Circuit of Virginia will decide the fate of John Randolph “Rand” Hooper of Richmond on Thursday, December 19, in Lancaster County Circuit Court.

Hooper pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and failure to render aid in the August 2017 death of Graham McCormick of Atlanta. McCormick drowned as the result of trauma resulting from a boating accident while visiting Hooper and other friends at the home of Hooper’s parents in Irvington. His body was discovered in Carter Creek.

Hooper and McCormick had taken the boat out for a late-night ride. Hooper returned it home after the accident and originally denied…
