Devils win district track crowns

Domonique Veney won three events to lead Lancaster to the Northern Neck District track and field championship and earn the most valuable player honor at last week’s meet at Northumberland High School.

Both the LHS boys and girls teams brought home the district crowns. The meet took over five days to complete. The five-team meet started on May 10 and was stopped because of storms with five events remaining. Weather and other scheduled school events kept pushing the completion back, and back, and back, with the meet finally concluding last Wednesday, May 16.

The LHS boys team won 11 individual events to score 180 points for the district title. The Red Devils were 73 points better than second place Essex, which scored 107 points. Host Northumberland was third with 96 points, while Rappahannock and Washington & Lee tied for fourth with 30 points.

In the girls meet, Lancaster won five events to score 121 points for the championship…
