Dirt Bridge Road in Middlesex County, considered a shortcut for many motorists traveling between the Northern Neck and Gloucester County, is closed to through traffic between Greys Point Road and Regent Road for motorist safety after a drainage pipe failure.
Access to all residential entrances will be maintained on Dirt Bridge Road on both approaches to the road closure, reported Virginia Department of Transportation public affairs manager Kelly Hannon.
VDOT crews posted signs April 4 to guide motorists along the recommended detour route, which is approximately 3 miles:
• Greys Point Road.
• Syringa Road.
• Regent Road.
A reopening date is not immediately available. An updated schedule to reopen the road will be announced after crews have an opportunity to fully assess damage to the pipe and road.
An average of 3,300 vehicles a day travel on Dirt Bridge Road between Greys Point and Regent roads.
