Doggett’s career charts worldly course leading to a USCG Chief Engineer’s Unlimited License

Darryl S. Doggett Sr. of Mollusk, a 1982 graduate of Lancaster High School, recently completed his testing and has earned his USCG Chief Engineer’s Unlimited License.

It’s been a long road to travel for Doggett in order to receive the highest level of license he can earn as a chief engineer, he said. Doggett was inspired by his father, the late Louis R. Doggett Sr., who was a fishing boat chief engineer, never having received his license.

 In 1987, Doggett began his career with the Zapata Hayne Corporation. He served as a second engineer aboard the fishing vessel QO Dunn in Cameron, La.

Virgin “Gus” Dunaway was his first captain and had also been his father’s captain aboard the same vessel. This was ironic and Doggett felt honored to have begun his career in the same engine room…
