Dr. Eugene D. Brand, MD

WICOMICO CHURCH—Dr. Eugene Dew Brand, MD, 93, of Wicomico Church and Charlotte, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at the Levine Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, N.C., with his wife and their two daughters by his side after a short illness.

Dr. Brand was born March 10, 1924, in the Panama Canal Zone, the son of the late Col. Clarence Eugene Brand, JAG, and the late Maj. Frances Christian Brand. Dr. Brand graduated from the University of Virginia and Harvard Medical School combined in six years. He was board certified in three medical disciplines. He taught at the University of Virginia Medical School for 20 years and was a guest researcher at the NIMH for three years.

Dr. Brand assisted in the founding of Rappahannock General Hospital in Kilmarnock, performing as assistant surgeon, Emergency Room doctor, recruiting physicians and providing medical care there, while also practicing psychiatry in the Northern Neck from 1974 until 2002.

Dr. Brand is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy James Clark Brand; children, Nancy James Clark Brand Patel, Elizabeth Clark Hood Fay, Ellwood Richard Hood II, and children from his first marriage, Bryan Sibley Brand, Francesca Brand Sarver, Alice Brand Wilkerson, Romney Brand and Cynthia Brand Hopkins; and 13 grandchildren.
