Dr. J.T. Roane to discuss new book

The Middle Peninsula African-American Genealogical and Historical Society (MPAAGHS) will hold a virtual meeting at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 14. The meeting will feature a talk by Dr. J.T. Roane about his new book, Dark Agoras: Insurgent Black Social Life and the Politics of Place.

The book is a history of Black urban placemaking and politics in Philadelphia from the Great Migration to the era of Black Power.

Many African Americans migrated from southern coastal areas to the Northeast during the Great Migration. Philadelphia was an important destination for many persons from eastern Virginia who followed….
