Dream Fields Invitational opens Thursday

The annual Dream Fields Invitational will open March 30, and continue through Saturday, April 1, at Dream Fields, 1385 Irvington Road, Kilmarnock.

A total of 23 baseball and softball games will be played in three days, according to tournament director Welby Saunders.

Play will start at 5 p.m today when the Lancaster High School varsity softball team will host Washington & Lee. Also at 5 p.m. in JV softball, St. Margaret’s will play Rappahannock.

At 6 p.m., LHS will play W&L in varsity baseball and Rappahannock will play Mathews in junior varsity baseball. At 7 p.m., Mathews will face St. Margaret’s School in varsity softball.

The tournament includes 23 teams from across the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula, and as far away as the Eastern Shore. It draws hundreds of players and thousands of fans to the Kilmarnock ballpark each year, said Saunders.

JV Softball

  • Mathews vs. Northumberland, 5 p.m., Field 6

JV Baseball, Field 3

  • Washington & Lee vs. Lancaster, 4:30 p.m.
  • Northumberland vs. King William, 7 p.m.

Varsity Softball, Field 2

  • Northumberland vs. Middlesex, 7 p.m.

Varsity Baseball, Field 5

  • King William vs. Nandua, 4:30 p.m.
  • Northumberland vs. Mathews, 7 p.m.

Saturday, April 1

JV Softball, Field 6

  • Rappahannock vs. Lancaster, 1 p.m.
  • Northumberland vs. Middlesex, 3 p.m.
