Drifters sink Devils postseason hopes, 54-8

Colonial Beach High School controlled play and decided Lancaster’s postseason fate last Friday night.

The Drifters 54-8 win over the Red Devils keeps LHS from making the Region 1A playoffs, which begin next week.

According to the Virginia High School League weekly ratings, the Northern Neck District’s Essex is ranked first among the region’s 11 teams. The top eight teams make the regional playoffs. Lancaster is ranked 10th and can’t move its way into the top eight even with a regular season-ending win over Northumberland tomorrow, November 4. The Devils will host their district rival for bragging rights. Northumberland is ranked third in the region and King & Queen second.

Lancaster has struggled to get its rushing game going over the last three weeks. Last Friday was more of the same against Colonial Beach with the Devils in the negative on the ground.
