To celebrate Independence Day, on July 1-2 Dug In Farms, 155 Fleets Bay Road, White Stone, offered visitors samples of red, yellow and orange watermelons, as well as pickled watermelon rinds and watermelon salad.
A watermelon seed spitting contest brought stiff competition. On July 1, Jason King of Warrenton took home the prize watermelon. King spit the watermelon seed an impressive 19′ 3″. Thomas Harlow of Weems won the watermelon prize on July 2 with a distance of 18′.
