Elizabeth D. “Betsy” Layman

REEDVILLE—Elizabeth Davis “Betsy” Layman died Sunday, February 27, 2022. 

She was predeceased by her parents, Glennon Winters “Buck”  Davis and Anne Oakey Davis.

She is survived by her son, David Layman (Wanda); daughters, Beth Layman and Anne Layman English (Jimmy); her grandchildren, Ethan and Wyatt Layman and Grace and Abby English; sister, Anne Haynie (“Tee”); and many nieces and nephews.

Betsy grew up in Reedville, was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Reedville and graduated from Northumberland High School. She attended Westhampton College before returning home to Reedville.

She worked at Hubbard’s Insurance Agency in Kilmarnock and later became the guidance secretary at Lancaster High School for many years. She retired from the Lancaster County School system in the payroll department.

Betsy enjoyed volunteering at Rappahannock General Hospital, playing bridge and mahjong and card games with her grandchildren. Her favorite times were spent with her family including family beach vacations where she would keep everyone laughing with her witty sense of humor.

Betsy was kind and caring and above all, loved her family with all of her heart and made sure that we knew it each and every day.

A visitation will be held at at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 3, Bethany United Methodist Church, a service will follow at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the American Heart Association.

Currie Funeral Home LLC of Kilmarnock handled the arrangements.
