Elswick stars for JV Red Devils

by Lisa Hinton-Valdrighi

Keith Elswick shut Mathews down in the final two innings and came up with a game-winning hit in the seventh inning as the Red Devils edged the Blue Devils, 8-7, in JV baseball last Friday.

“Keith came up with a huge hit and also shut them down, so he really came through for us. He was the superstar in that one,” said LHS coach Will Barrack.

The Red Devils were trailing, 7-6, in their last at bat when eighth grader Damier Smith drew his third walk of the game and Tucker Vanderpool reached base on an error. Smith, who’d moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Chris Cunningham, went to third on the error and Vanderpool stole second to put runners on second and third. Elswick drove them both in for the tying and winning runs with a double.
