Fairfields Baptist to celebrate homecoming

Fairfields Baptist Church in Burgess will celebrate its 175th year of ministry in the Northern Neck on October 13. A reception will be held at 10:30 a.m., followed by worship at 11 a.m.

The guest speaker will be Dr. John Upton, executive director of the Baptist General Association of Virginia. Joining him will be area field strategist Susan McBride. Special music will be provided by Sharon Mann.

Fairfields Baptist was founded in 1811 as a house church sponsored by Morattico Baptist Church, reported pastor Randy McCollum. Fairfields built its first church building in 1844. The church is still near the original site of the first church building.

Over the years it has sponsored two other churches that continue to be present in Northumberland County. Shiloh Baptist Church, also in Burgess, was established in 1967 and Fairport Baptist Church was established in the Fairport community in 1886.
