Five Lancaster High School students on September 9 visited Virginia Tech, where they toured athletic facilities, met football coaches and attended a Hokies versus Purdue Boilermakers game.
Seniors Jaquarrius Morris, Lamar Mattocks and Daveon Smith and juniors Brady Vanlandingham and Brandon Bishop made the trip with coach Landon Gouveia, assistant coach Andrew Wylie and school counselor Josh Suszek, reported school board member Margaret Socey.
Coach Gouveia started planning the trip during the summer because he wanted to open the eyes of his players to college football, he said. It also helps that his brother is a defensive analyst for Virginia Tech.
He chose the five players because they worked hard during the summer, putting in the time in the weight room, and they were recruitable, added Gouveia. This was recruit weekend. Hopeful players came from….
