
WHITE STONE—Florence Pittman Turlington, 89, of White Stone passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 13, 2025.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Floyd Spencer Turlington; her daughters, Karen T. Langevin and husband Wayne, Janice T. Lindenberger and husband Paul and Eleanor I. Shields; siblings, Joyce Broadus, Faye George and Frankie Pittman; grandchildren, Warren Langevin and wife Kathleen, Dr. Jessica Langevin and husband Karl, Colin Langevin and wife Amanda and Carmen Shields; great-granddaughters, Josephine and Lila Langevin; nephews, Wayne Broadus and Roger Headley; and nieces, Patsy Kitching and Stacy Campbell; her step-grandchildren, Eric Lindenberger and wife Kristy, Ashley Schneider and husband Nate; and eight step-great-grandchildren, Jack, Adam, Lucy, Cody, Ethan, Jeremiah, Ruth and Grace.
She also will be remembered by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and loved family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mattie T. and Ralph E. Pittman; in-laws, Eleanor F. and Floyd S. Turlington Sr.; and sister, Dorothy Headley.
Born April 16, 1936, in Lancaster County, Florence graduated from White Stone High School and went on to graduate from St. Luke’s Hospital of Richmond after which she pursued a career in nursing in multiple locations.
She and Floyd eventually settled in York County, where they raised their daughters and Florence served in a variety of public health nursing positions in York and James City County, as well as a private practice. Her dedication to volunteer service included St. Luke’s and White Stone United Methodist Churches, UMW of both congregations, WSMC United Women in Faith and White Stone UMW Thrift Shop; as well as 4-H, Girl Scouts and PTA organizations during her daughters’ school years.
Upon retiring she returned with Floyd to White Stone to build their beautiful homesite on ancestral Rappahannock River property where she delighted in gardening the wooded acres adjacent to the “Old Lawson’s English tract.” A loving caregiver to her parents and family, Eleanor and Floyd Turlington (deceased), and her daughters, she was a loved grandmother who was always eager to craft and bake with the grandchildren. She will be remembered as a warm and welcoming hostess with a determined, resilient spirit and a commitment to home, family and friends.
A visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock.
A memorial service will be held at the family’s ancestral church, White Stone Methodist, 118 Methodist Church Road, White Stone, at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 23, with a reception to follow.
