REEDVILLE—Frances Armsworthy Haynie was born May 1, 1917, on the family farm in Burgess. She was the youngest daughter of William Flynt Armsworthy and Maggie Haynie Armsworthy.
Spirited and spiritual, Mrs. Haynie’s life on this earth ended on January 25, 2017, at age 99.
Preceding her in death were siblings, Merle A. Cardozo, Graydon Armsworthy, Margaret A. Truitt and Elizabeth A. Ewing.
Mrs. Haynie graduated from Reedville High School in 1935 and attended Strayer Business College in Washington, D.C., 1936-1937. In April of 1937, she married E. Vincent Haynie of Beverlyville, the son of Russell M. and Fannie G. Haynie. They resided in Reedville all their lives.
Mrs. Haynie, whose ancestors helped to charter Fairfields Baptist Church, was a longtime member there. She was active in WMU, Sunday School teacher, chairwoman of several church committees and sang in the choir well into her 80s. Mrs. Haynie is also remembered for her loyalty, quick wit, devotion to her faith, endless words of wisdom, love of reading and a passion for music.
Priorities in her life were faith, family and friends. Her greatest blessing was her husband of 51 years, Vincent, who preceded her in death in 1989.
She leaves two children, David Vincent Haynie (Anne) of Reedville and Julia M. Cardozo Haynie of Colorado; a very special nephew, Dr. Norwood Cardozo (Sue) of Florida, Julia Merle’s brother and two wonderful grandsons, Vincent (Lydia) and Russell (Lynne) Haynie of Reedville; two step-granddaughters, Kathy (Timothy) Pittman of Lancaster, Holly (Maxwell) King of Chesapeake; four great-grandchildren Emory, Samuel, Sarah and David Christopher Haynie; and four step-great-grandchildren, Tiffany and Paige Pittman and Allen and Anne King. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
We celebrate the life of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who lived life to its fullest and enjoyed her days on this earth. Mrs. Haynie lived well, laughed often, loved much and was passionate about her faith. She will be greatly missed.
Her memorial service and reception will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at Fairfields Baptist Church, 15213 Northumberland Highway, Burgess, VA 22432. Interment will be private at Roseland Cemetery, Reedville.
