Local motorists have observed the cost per gallon for regular gasoline remains significantly higher in Lancaster County than in surrounding areas. While prices started dropping elsewhere last month, they remain above the national average in Kilmarnock, where the price was $2.95 at each of the town’s fueling stations on Sunday, January 4.
According to AAA Fuel Prices, the average price per gallon for regular gasoline nationwide was $2.814 and in Virginia, $2.701; in Lancaster, $2.932; Middlesex, $2.599; Northumberland, $2.608; Richmond County, $2.539; and Westmoreland, $2.761.
According to GasBuddy, an app and website that tracks gas prices, the cheapest gas January 4 in Lancaster was reported in White Stone, $2.83; Middlesex, Saluda, $2.59; Northumberland, Burgess and Heathsville, $2.57; Richmond County, Warsaw, $2.53; and Westmoreland, $2.62, Kinsale.
