WINDSOR—Gerald “Jerry” Burt, 80, of Windsor, formerly of Reedville, passed away on September 29, 2021, at Sentara Obici Hosiptal with his “granddaughter” by his side.
A graveside service to celebrate his life will he held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 8, 2021, at Roseland Cemetery in Reedville.
Jerry was born in Richmond to Benjamin Carter Burt and Grace Thompson Burt on September 18, 1941. He married the love of his life, Marjorie Patterson Burt, on September 1, 1960. They celebrated 55 years of marriage together.
He worked in sales for many years and later retired and traveled the U.S. with his wife by his side. He was an avid fisherman and had a love for the outdoors. If he was not in the garden or the yard, you could find him on or near the water with a fishing pole in his hand.
Jerry was formerly an active member of Coan Baptist Church and recently joined Colosse Baptist Church in Windsor.
Jerry had a true love for people and never met a stranger. He truly had a huge and loving heart for his family and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Grace Burt; his wife, Marjorie Burt; and son, Troy Burt.
Left to cherish his memories are several nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends, including very special friends, Terry (Phillip) Keyser and Samantha (Gary) Owen and Kasen Briley.
The family of Jerry wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Windsor Volunteer Rescue Squad as well as the doctors, nurses and care partners at Sentara Obici Hospital who provided loving and compassionate care to him during his time with them.
