WILLIAMSBURG—Gerald S. (Jerry) Hawley, former 18 year resident of Northumberland County, died April 2 at Patriots Colony, Williamsburg.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, he left in 1953 to attend the United States Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., graduating in 1957. He served in the U.S. Army for 23 years, retiring in 1980 as a lieutenant colonel.
While in Kilmarnock, Jerry was a member of Kilmarnock Baptist Church serving as a deacon and choir member. He was an active member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 33, serving two terms as commander, and also participated as a docent at Historic Christ Church.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Carolyn; son, Scott Hawley of Nashville, Tenn.; daughter, Gwen Hawley Smith and son-in-law, Kevin Trent Smith, of Hanover County, grandchildren, Isabella, Emma and Henry; and a sister, Judy Nassmacher of Centerville, Ohio.

A memorial service with reception following will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Bucktrout of Williamsburg, 4124 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg.
