Gilbert S. Morris

KING GEORGE—Gilbert Steven “Ty” Morris of King George died February 12, 2018.

Mr. Morris was born April 21, 1942, to Annie Belle and the late John Morris in White Stone.

The family moved to Colonial Beach and he was educated in Westmoreland schools. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Colonial Beach.

He worked a variety of labor jobs. In 1984, he was employed by the Naval Surface Weapons Center Dahlgren Division, where he worked until his retirement in 2007.

He was predeceased by his wife, Joyce Morris; father, John Morris; brothers, John Morris and Larry Morris; sister, Grenda Morris; and grandchildren, Jamell West, Cynthia Gray and Gregory Gray.

Mr. Morris is survived by his mother, Annie Belle Morris of Colonial Beach; children, Andrea Hogan, Gilbert Hayes and Tirrell Morris of King George, Julie Jackson of Greenbelt, Md., and Cynthia Gray of Washington, D.C.; grandchildren, Jaleesa Hayes, Shavanta Hayes, Ariyonna Morris, Jordan Greer, Quoryanna, Keondre, Shaquan and Brittany Hayes, and Antonio, Issac, Shawnta, Paris, Gilbert, Julia, Phillip and Latasha Gray; 15 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Raymond Morris of King George, Maxine Wilson of of Woodbridge, Edna Louise Ballard of Durham, N.C., and Barbara Morris of Temple Hills, Md.

A funeral was held February 17 at Little Zion Baptist Church, Colonial Beach. Interment followed at Historyland Memorial Park, King George.
