Grace Episcopal to host fall Celtic service Sunday

Grace Episcopal Church, 303 South Main Street, Kilmarnock, will host a Fall Celtic service at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, October 12.

As summer’s fallen seeds begin to sleep underground, the increasingly darkened earth yearns for light, said Laura Rowe. After the Lughnasadh festivals of late summer, where mountain and hillclimbing marked some feasts, the wheel of the year turns to Samhain, which means “summer’s end.”

In ancient Gaelic times this was actually considered the beginning of the Celtic year, continued Rowe. Harvest was gathered and stored; livestock was brought into….
