Hall named Region 1A soccer player of the year

Region 1A’s top two teams filled a combined eight spots on the all-region soccer team last week, but Middlesex, who made an exit in the semifinals, had the region’s top player.

Senior Laney Hall was named the region’s player of the year and a forward on the first team. The Chargers, who lost to eventual regional runner-up Northampton in the semifinals, also named senior defender Cameron Hammond and senior midfielder Wyatt Evans to the first team. Middlesex sophomore forward Merek Hanscom, senior midfielder Colin Tolomeo and sophomore defender Nielson McMinn were named to the second team.

Rappahannock, which won the Region 1A tournament and advanced to the Class 1 state semifinals where they lost to Galax, placed four….
