KILMARNOCK—Hazel Turner Wonsom, 90, of Kilmarnock quietly passed away on May 6, 2022.

Hazel lived in the Northern Neck her entire life and was educated in the Lancaster County school system.

She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church of Kilmarnock since the age of 10. She served in several church organizations including the finance committee for 18 years, the culinary committee for 39 years and as a senior usher for 42 years. Hazel was a great cook, always cooking for family and hosted dinners for several ministers of the church over the years.

Hazel was married to the late Bennie James Wonsom. Five children were born from their union, Louis James Wonsom, Benjamin Franklin Wonsom, Charles Earl Wonsom, Gracie Wonsom Tiggle and Betty Wonsom Hooper.

Hazel was loved and appreciated by her family and friends. She worked many years as a daycare provider for neighborhood children. She was also employed with The Tides Inn for 10 years and the Colonial Hardware Store for 21 years.

Hazel leaves to cherish her memories three of her children, eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren, three sisters, two brothers, two sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone for their expressions of sympathy and love.
