Helen L. Quillan

KILMARNOCK—Helen Layman Quillan, 86, of Kilmarnock died Wednesday, November 29, 2017.

Mrs. Quillan was born July 2, 1931, to Joseph E. and Gladys Eubank Layman. Mrs. Quillan lived her early years, until graduating from Kilmarnock High School, with Sam and Edith Eubank across from Kilmarnock Baptist Church where later in life she was pianist and organist.

She attended Averett College and RPI in Richmond. In 1952 she was elected Holly Ball Queen and the minister to the queen was her future husband of 54 years, John T. Quillan, who predeceased her in August of 2007.

Mrs. Quillan is survived by her daughter, Gladys Q. Larson and her husband, Steve; a grandson, Gregory Chase Withers and his wife, Lauren; twin great-grandchildren, Bethany Grace and Christopher Chase Withers; step-grandchildren Erik Larson (Patty) and Holley L. Ott; five step-great-grandchildren, Blake Crittenden, James Curtis Crittenden, Addison Ott and twins Simon and Patrick Larson; a brother and his wife, Edward Layman and Candy Manuel; nephew, David Layman; and nieces, Beth Layman and Anne English.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 3, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Kilmarnock.

The family extended a special thank-you to the wonderful staff at Dockside Health and Rehabilitation in Locust Hill and to the loving care and support from the special people of Hospice of VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kilmarnock Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 333, Kilmarnock, VA 22482, or to Hospice of Virginia, 1328 Tappahannock Boulevard, Tappahannock, VA 22560.

Currie Funeral Home LLC of Kilmarnock handled the arrangements.
