Historic Christ Church to host patriotic readings July 2

The Foundation for Historic Christ Church (FHCC) with the Cobbs Hall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Richard Henry Lee Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) invite the community to a public reading of the Declaration of Independence.

Readings will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 2, in Historic Christ Church, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems. The free event will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration with patriotic songs for the audience to sing, a brief history of the document and a public reading performed by various members of the community, reported executive director Robert Teagle.

A group of volunteer readers will read the full text of the Declaration and the names of the 56 men who signed it. Children who would like to participate can help….
