On September 23, Morattico Baptist Church and 13 of her daughter churches will be open for a Historic Church Tour.
These hidden gems of the Northern Neck, dating back to 1778, will be revealed, said tour chairman Kathy Pittman. Visit at a preferred self-guided pace. There will be docents on each property to share historical information.
The Historic Church Tour offers something for everyone—history, architecture, stained glass and cemetery secrets, said Pittman. At the first stop, visitors will receive a souvenir tour guide.
“You may also be able to get a snack or lunch at several stops,” she said. “This information can be found in the tour book.”
The participating churches are Morattico, Beulah, Claybrook, Coan, Corrottoman, Fairfields, Fairport, First, Irvington, Kilmarnock, Lebanon, Mount Olive, Providence and White Stone.
Tickets are $10 per person and may be purchased in advance at several community locations, Davenport & Co, Kilmarnock Lettering, NN Chiropractic, Lillian Lumber, Primis Bank Heathsville, Chesapeake Bank Lively and Lancaster Virginia Historical Society, or at any participating church on the day of the event.
