Hugh F. Magee Jr.

MYSTIC, CONN.—Hugh Fairly Magee Jr. died peacefully in his sleep in Mystic, Conn., on September 23, 2017. He was 91.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 25, 1926, and lived his early years in Ridgewood, N.J. He was a graduate of the Peddie School and Northwestern University. He served as a U.S. Naval Officer aboard two aircraft carriers during World War II and again during the Korean War.

He is survived by his cherished former wife, Madeleine; and their sons, John, Bill and Tom; his grandchildren, Sanjana, Helena, Benjamin and Beatrice; and his daughters-in-law, Sanjukta and Isobel. He is also survived by his brother, retired U.S. Navy Capt. William Cornell Magee of Virginia and sister, Laurin Weeks Magee of Florida.

Although born and raised on the East Coast, he had an abiding love for the West and spent the majority of his working and retired life living in Northern California.

His passions were tennis, camping and most of all fly fishing. His sharp mind, wit and unique sense of humor left indelible and lasting impressions on most everyone he met and he will be missed.

Mystic Funeral Home in Mystic, Conn., handled the arrangements.
