‘Improving’ orchestra to open season Saturday

by Madison White Franks

Under the direction of Michael Repper, the Northern Neck Orchestra (NNO) on Saturday, October 14, will present Autumn Pastoral, celebrating symphonic masterworks.

The concert will be presented at the Lancaster Middle School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock. Admission is by season subscription, or individual performance, $30. Tickets can be purchased at northernneckorchestra.org/tickets.

The concert will showcase teenage cellist Sarah Tindall, performing a Cello Concerto No. 1 in A Minor by Camille Saint-Saens. The NNO will open with Rossini’s Overture to the Barber of Seville and will conclude with Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony, Pastoral.

Repper, who became familiar with the NNO in 2014, reported the musical quality of the orchestra is growing strongly.

“I got an email asking if I was interested in auditioning for the music director job. I’m really happy that I did because the spirit of the music here is phenomenal. Everyone is here to make the music just as good as they possibly can,” he said.
