Indians get the jump on Red Devils, 57-44

Northumberland took the lead for good in the first quarter, outscoring Lancaster by eight in the opening minutes, and went on to hand the varsity Red Devils their first Northern Neck District loss, 57-44, in boys basketball last Tuesday.

Devin Palmer couldn’t miss for the Indians, leading all scorers with 21 points and scoring 14 points in the second half. K. Redmond added nine points for the host Indians, who held the Devils to single digit scoring in both of the middle quarters.

Darius Reed and Martez Davis led the Devils with 13 and 11 points, respectively. They both did most of their work in the final eight minutes when Lancaster rallied for 18 points. Davis and Reed scored seven points each in the fourth.

Lancaster picked up three wins last week, including two in Northern Neck District play and one in regional competition to improve to 13-5 overall and 7-1 in the district…
