Apparently when Lancaster and Northumberland play each other in varsity volleyball, it’s all or nothing.
The two teams have played three times with sweeps in all three. In their first meeting this season, the Indians blanked the Devils, 3-0; in their second, LHS swept NHS, 3-0. Last week, with a trip to the Northern Neck District championship on the line, it was all Northumberland. The Indians took a 3-0 semifinal win over the Devils on their home court last Tuesday and went on to finish as the district runner-up.
Top-ranked Rappahannock beat Northumberland, 3-0, last Thursday in Warsaw in the championship. The Raiders are the high seed heading into this week’s Region 1A tournament. Northumberland is in fourth place and Lancaster sixth. Regional play was scheduled to start Tuesday, November 1, with semifinals at the higher seed sites tonight, November 3. The finals will be Monday, November 7, at the higher seed.
