Indoor track teams race to the finish at state meet

Rory Lally finished third in one race, ran a leg of the third-place relay and placed fifth in the pole vault to lead the Lancaster High School girls team to a middle-of-the-pack finish in the Virginia High School League Class 1 state indoor track and field meet at Liberty University in Lynchburg on March 4-5.

Auburn won the girls meet with 79 points and Brunswick was the runner-up with 58.

Northampton had the best finish among Region 1A teams in the girls meet, tied for third with George Wythe at 53 points each. Lancaster had the next best finish, placing 10th of 26 scoring teams with 23 points. West Point scored 14 points in a tie for 11th place and Rappahannock was 16th with 11.5 points. Middlesex scored eight points for 19th and Mathews seven, for 20th.

Lally ran the 1000 meter in 3:14.82, just .68 behind the….
