Before the sunrise Wednesday, February 7, a bus containing 46 travelers will depart from Kilmarnock to begin a journey to Montgomery and Selma, Alabama. The trip, sponsored by Interracial Conversations of the Northern Neck (IRC), will span five days, ending on Sunday, February 11.
The journey will be both a physical and an emotional/psychological journey as a diverse group of people visit the sites of significant events in the civil rights movement of the 1960s, reported IRC steering committee member Judy Thomson. The travelers are Black and White, male and female, and they comprise an age range from senior citizens to teenagers. “Born Heres,” “Come Heres,” and “Come-Back-Heres” all are represented.
