
The Tides Inn in Irvington is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and as part of the celebration the resort recently reenacted the Irvington to Urbanna whiskey run and conducted a ceremony at the Urbanna Town Marina.
The Saturday whiskey run from Tides Inn to Urbanna ran from 1947 to 2008. Tides Inn opened in 1947 and part of the owner’s vision of the resort experience was that their guests could take a drink inside their hotel.
Lancaster County was a dry county and did not allow the sale and consumption of alcohol at hotels. Tides Inn found a loophole in Virginia law where private clubs were not bound by the same alcohol constraints as hotels, so owners created the Chesapeake Club….
