Ivan J. Lewis Jr.

WOODBRIDGE—Ivan James Lewis Jr. died Monday, January 13, 2020, at Envoy Senior Citizen’s Home, Woodbridge.

Lewis was the son of the late Ivan James Lewis Sr. and Catherine Isabella Lewis (nee Douglas). He was born December 6, 1929, in New York City.

Lewis graduated from Manhattan Aviation High School, worked for the U.S. Postal Service until drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he served honorably for three years. After his time in the Army, Lewis worked the next 32 years for the NYC Transit System, until his retirement in 1980.

He was the husband of the late Eleanor Lewis (nee Lee), who died in 1992. They lived in the Bronx, N.Y., until moving to Kilmarnock in 1980. Lewis was formerly a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in the Bronx and later attended Sharon Baptist Church in Weems, where he was a member of the choir.

Lewis is survived by his sons, Ivan Lee Lewis and Lloyd Gregory Lewis; grandchildren, Gregory, Jason, Alisha, Isaac, Leandra, Jeremy, April and Jaelin; and sisters: Pauline Lewis of Forked River, N.J. and Sylvia Renaud of Brooklyn, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bertie Lewis and Reginald Lewis; and sisters, Marjorie Jackman, Mary Beckford and Inez McCloud.

A service was held Saturday, January 18, at Campbell Funeral Home, Kilmarnock. Interment followed at Sharon Baptist Church.
