James “Ali Abdul” Scruggs

KILMARNOCK—James “Ali Abdul” Scruggs of Kilmarnock died July 13, 2022.

Ali Abdul was born October 1, 1957, to the late Guy Franklin Scruggs and Doris Wilson Scruggs in Cook County Ga. During his early childhood, the family moved to Virginia.

He graduated from George Wythe High School in Richmond. Ali worked in the restaurant industry. Ali was passionate about the promotion of peace and unity with a belief in Islam and compassion for all of God’s creation.

Ali was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Judith Scruggs; his parents, Doris Wilson Scruggs and Guy Franklin Scruggs.

He is survived by his children, MiChaun, James Jr., Jamesha, Tonesha and Omar; grandsons, Marquel, Khyri and JoSean; granddaughters, Milani and Jazmine; sisters Toni V. Scruggs Seaborn and Cecelia V. Hillard; brothers, Keith Scruggs, and Guy Franklin Scruggs Jr.

A service was held July 20 a Campbell Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, with Rev. Kenneth Barbour officiating. Interment followed in Cox Memorial Cemetery, Kilmarnock
