
IRVINGTON—James B. Stone III, 90, of Irvington passed away on September 1, 2019.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Margaret “Peg” Stone; two devoted daughters, Barbara Mait (Russell) and Jennifer Crowder (William); three loving grandsons, Will and Mitchell Crowder and Alex Mait; sister, Nancy S. Rosenberg; and brother, Robert L. Stone (Bobbie).
He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Bernard Stone Jr. and Violet Carter Stone; and his sister, Patricia S. Shepherd.
Mr. Stone was born and raised in Fredericksburg. He graduated from Fork Union Military Academy and Strayer College of Accountancy and was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. Jim was employed for 40 years by the Washington Gas Light Company.
Jim was a very active church member, a fervent sports fan, an avid sailor, a scout leader and a coach. He was member of White Stone United Methodist Church and the Rappahannock River Yacht Club.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 21, at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury, Irvington. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury Foundation, 132 Lancaster Drive, Irvington, VA 22480; or to a charity of your choice.
