HEATHSVILLE—James Rennie “Ole Dude” Carter Jr. died April 17, 2017.
James was the son of the late Rennie James and the late Rosa Marie Carter of Horsehead. He graduated from Rosenwald High School in Reedville in 1954.
James was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and a founding member of the cemetery club.
He worked over 30 years at Potomac Supply in Kinsale and also was a landscaper for various churches and the community.
James was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Charles Carter; his son, William Donald Carter; and his granddaughter Sonia Beale.
He is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Jean; children Jaehn of Fayetteville, N.C., James, III, of Heathsville, Earnest of Heathsville, Julia of Rocky Mount, N.C., Joseph of Clinton, Md., Reva of Clinton, Md., Gloria of Heathsville and Rosie of Chester; 36 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held April 23 at Macedonia Baptist Church, followed by interment in the church cemetery.
