James V. Grinnen

WEEMS—James Victor Grinnen, 76, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 17, 2021, of natural causes. He was born on February 4, 1945, in Towanda, N.Y., the son of Charles A. Grinnen and Helen (Shirey) Grinnen.

Jim graduated from Warren Area High School, class of 1963. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army from 1967 until 1973. While in the service, he married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Danielson, and they settled down in Warren, Pa., until 2004 when they moved to Virginia. They celebrated 53 years of marriage this past April.

Jim worked for the Warren County School District as the purchasing agent for 25 years before becoming an ordained Nazarene minister where he worshipped at the Warren Church of the Nazarene, before moving to Lancaster and serving as a care pastor at White Stone Church of the Nazarene since 2004.

In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased in death by his sister, Carolee Heckathorn; brother, Charles A. Grinnen; and nephew, Chuck Grinnen.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Marilyn, is his son, Bradley B. Grinnen; daughter, Melissa F. (Grinnen) O’Donnell and her husband, John O’Donnell; beloved granddaughters, Lillian Dai Grinnen and Della Rose Grinnen; and his sister, Jacquelyn (Grinnen) Wallin and her husband, Gary Wallin. Jim had numerous nieces and nephews he loved very much including Rhonda Heckathorn, Rick Heckathorn, Tracey Helmsley, Scott Grinnen, Jim Grinnen, Lindsay Wallin, Matt Wallin, Melinda (Ristau) Young, Barb (Danielson) Derr, Rodger Danielson, Rodney Danielson and Kevin Danielson. He had great-nieces, great-nephews, many cousins and more friends than anyone can count.

Jim’s passion in life, besides his family and friends, was his love for Jesus and reaching as many people as he could for the Lord. He was the king of corny jokes and his brain was a card catalogue of jokes for every occasion.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the “WSCON” benevolence fund.

Jim’s Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at White Stone Church of the Nazarene, 57 Whisk Drive, White Stone. All are welcome!

Currie Funeral Home LLC of Kilmarnock handled the arrangements.
