Jean A. C. Carter

HEATHSVILLE—Jean Anita Caster “Mama Jean” Carter of Heathsville died November 19, 2018.

Mrs. Carter was born January 27, 1940, the daughter of the late Joseph Samual and Julia Adlena Carter Caster of Ditchley.

Jean was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Kilmarnock, and later, Macedonia Baptist Church, Heathsville, where she was in the gospel chorus, cemetery club and missionary circle. She served on the trustee board and as a youth leader, Sunday school teacher and superintendent.

She was educated at Anna T. Jeans Elementary School and Julius Rosenwald High School. She also completed course work at Rappahannock Community College.

She worked for Northumberland Elementary School for 23 years. She also collected donations for the American Red Cross and the Cancer Society.

She also was predeceased by her husband, James Rennie Carter; son, William Donald Carter; granddaughter Sonia Marie Beale; brother, Joseph Caster; and sisters, Evelyn Peterson and Beatrice Jones.

She is survived by stepson, Jeaehn of Charlotte, N.C.; children, James III, Ernest and Gloria of Heathsville, Julia of Greenbelt, Md., Joseph and Reva of Clinton, Md., and Rosie of Chester; sisters, Lucy of Washington, D.C., and Mary Julia of Gloucester; brother, Timothy of Kilmarnock; 36 grandchildren; and 29 grandchildren.

A service was held Saturday, November 24, at Macedonia Baptist Church and interment followed in the church cemetery.
