LANCASTER—Jean Nead (Sturgill), 80, of Lancaster passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

Born in Washington on March 25, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Sturgill. She was the devoted wife of Robert E. Nead.

Jean is survived by two children, Darlene Iseminger (Lawerence Iseminger) and Eugene Nead (Marci Nead); grandchildren, Sydney Iseminger (Leo Kopec), Nicholas Nead and Isabella Nead; and brothers, Billy Sturgill and Bud Sturgill.

Though Jean had no formal education, she had a vast knowledge of history and the world around her. She was a member of the Lancaster County Woman’s Club. Jean was an avid collector of antiques and was well-versed in colonial furniture and art. She was a habitual visitor of Colonial Williamsburg, befriending many staff and historians, taking her children and grandchildren regularly, and keeping up with the newfound, historical evidence from the grounds.

Jean loved to read. She loved the smell of lavender and the color forest green. She watched black and white movies religiously. Jean was fond of ghost stories and murder mysteries. She always carried cinnamon gum with her. She would cook with love and butter. Jean had wit, humor and tenacity all rolled up into a short, five-foot frame.

She will be missed dearly. The family will not have an open service, and in place of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association.
