KILMARNOCK—Jennifer Margaret (Jones) Crandall was born in Akron, Ohio, on May 25, 1953, and passed away unexpectedly on September 19, 2026, in Virginia.
Jenny grew up in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, with her two older sisters and one younger sister. She enjoyed playing the flute and taking art classes throughout her school years. She has continued to maintain several special friendships from high school and has truly enjoyed their travels over the last few years.
After graduating from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1971, she worked various jobs including her own daycare for her daughter, two nephews and other children. This time allowed her to have a special bond with two of her nephews who are like brothers to her daughter. During this time, she also worked as a waitress, raised a daughter on her own, and returned to college to provide a better life for them. She attended Kent State University, graduating with a bachelor’s in home economics in 1994.
After graduating college, Jenny was offered a teaching position in Kilmarnock, where she and her daughter moved 500 miles from everyone they knew. She was so excited to move to the country and live near the Chesapeake Bay. Jenny loved teaching kids how to cook and sew and taught grades 6-12 in the four years before the school system eliminated home economics from the curriculum.
Jenny was then employed through the Virginia Cooperative Extension office where she especially enjoyed helping with the 4-H programs. As this was a temporary position, she then moved to teaching the GED program to prisoners until she ultimately retired to focus on her biggest joy in life, which was continuing to support her daughter and son-in-law by caring for and loving her two grandsons, Wesley and Preston. While caring for her grandchildren, she continued to teach them her passions about plants, cooking, sewing, crafts, fishing, kayaking and outings to the park, pool and library. She loved all their wild ideas and would often participate in their wild adventures on bikes and go-carts.
During this time, she also volunteered many hours in her community, including becoming a Master Gardener, helping her church and volunteering at a local animal shelter. She took her dogs to visit nursing homes and children’s reading programs. Jenny loved children, nature and her home in which she welcomed all the wild animals, including a possum that she found and raised until old enough to be released. She enjoyed video recording the wild animals and birds that frequented her beautiful yard filled with gardens and flowers often specifically designed to attract butterflies and birds. She was selfless, always putting others before herself, and showed love to everyone she met.
Jennifer Crandall is survived by her daughter, Christina Clark (William); two grandsons, Wesley and Preston Clark; three sisters, Linda Hardy, Chris Jones and Trillah Baker (Mike); as well as nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces and many amazing friends.
