Jessie C. Britt

KILMARNOCK—Jessie C. Britt, 90, of Kilmarnock passed away on November 30, 2017.

She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond L. Britt Sr., who died on April 16, 2002, and her four siblings, Robert Champion, Sally Taylor, William Champion, and Alma Savage.

Jessie is survived by her son, Raymond L. Britt Jr. and his wife, Amy Groh Britt; her four grandchildren, Jarrett, Becca, Lily and Landon; two great-grandchildren, Jax and Mason; her niece, Jean Rickets; her nephews, Royce Winslow and James Savage; and her best friend, Connie Knight, who stood by her her whole life.

Jessie was born on a farm near Louisburg, N.C., and moved to Norfolk shortly after graduation from high school. She married Raymond Britt Sr. in 1946 after his return from World War II.

She worked for Bank of Virginia (Sovran Bank) for over 22 years, retiring as assistant vice president. She was a charter member of American Business Women’s Association and a past president. She was the first woman allowed to join the Harbor Club in Norfolk.

She was a member of Norview Methodist Church for over 60 Years. She loved to play golf and to travel, having visited such venues as Spain, Turkey, England, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Bermuda, Alaska, Monaco, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Hawaii, Canada and Rio de Janeiro.

She was laid to rest at 2 p.m. December 5 at Maple Springs Baptist Church, Louisburg, N.C., next to her mother, father and her siblings.

She fought a good fight, she finished the race and she kept the faith. May she rest in peace.
