The Kilmarnock mayor and town council invite the public to the dedication of the Joe Curry Memorial Park, the children’s playground on Waverly Avenue. The ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28, onsite.
“Mr. Curry played an important role in our community and the Town of Kilmarnock is proud to honor his legacy by naming this playground for him,” said Mayor Mae Umphlett. “We thank his family for their support of this project.”
Town manager Tom Saunders will officiate. The Rev. Peyton W. Waller Sr. of New St. John’s Baptist Church will deliver the invocation and the Rev. Travis Copeland of Calvary Baptist Church will conduct the dedication.
The playground is on Waverly Avenue, less than a block from Main Street. There is municipal parking there with additional parking on Augusta Street.
Virginia Commonwealth Bank has made their main office parking available which is a short walk down Chase Street to the playground.
