John O. Dodson

WAYNESVILLE, N.C.—John O. Dodson, 85, of Waynesville, N.C., formerly of Richmond County, died March 15, 2019.

John was a potter and the founder of Mud Dabber’s Pottery with locations in Waynesville and Brevard, N.C. He was a graduate of Ferrum College and Union College, and served in the U.S. Army for two years in Korea.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert M. and Alma Luttrell Dodson; his wife, Sybil Dodson; daughter, Becky Louter; sisters, Thelma Dodson and Merle Stone; and brothers, Morris, Edward and Robert Dodson.

He is survived by a daughter, Beth Williams of Rome, Ga.; sons, John Dodson of Brevard and Brad Dodson of Waynesville; and nine grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. March 30 at Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church in Waynesville. Visitation will begin at the church at 1 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Britt David Pottery Studio in Columbus, Ga., Autumn Care of Waynesville, or Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church.

Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville handled the arrangements.
