Joycellyn A. Sadler

WEEMS—Joycellyn Ashburn Sadler, 90, of Weems died on October 28, 2022. 

She is survived by two nieces, Dana Moriconi (Henry) of Richmond and Maria Bernard (Robert) of El Paso, Texas; a sister-in-law, Antoinette Ashburn of Powhatan; her dear friends Gerald and Lydia Sellers of Weems; and a very special friend and caregiver, Kim Lamkin of Lively. 

She was a graduate of Radford College with a degree in elementary education. She began her career in Richmond, moved to Norfolk and then Lancaster County. Over the years she became a truly gifted teacher. She was a lifetime member of Claybrook Baptist Church where she was the organist for over 60 years. She only stopped playing when her health no longer permitted her to continue.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Clarence “Tootles” Sadler; her parents, Jesse and Estelle Ashburn; and brother, Boyd Ashburn.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, November 6, at Claybrook Baptist Church, Weems, with interment in the church cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, November 5, at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock.
